For Ashford Traditional Spinning Wheel MOA Base Platform Oak

Approximately 157mm long, 55mm wide, 12mm thick and made of solid Oak, these are an ideal replacement for a broken or missing MOA (Mother of All) base platform, which sits between the MOA itself and the frame of all Ashford Traditional spinning wheels. Lightly oiled, with pre-drilled holes for the four hinge screws, they also have the two adjustment channels for the two main screws, which are used to attached the platform base to the frame. NB. Screws and hinges are not supplied. However, what is supplied (although not shown in the images), is a replacement brass-plated drawing pin (‘thumb tack’) which is pressed into place into the wood at the point where the drive band tension knob (not supplied) is screwed down through the MOA to meet the base platform (this protects the wood and provides a hard surface for the tension knob to press against).

Ashford made at least two versions of the MOA base platform (as I call it): One which was made of plywood; the other made from a species of hardwood. I have a personal collection of around fifteen or more Ashford Traditionals, and have noticed that the plywood ones can de-laminate, whilst the hardwood ones can split and snap at or near the pair of long adjustment channels. The ones in this listing are made of solid Oak, and should last a lifetime.
